Posted on June 5th, 2010 25 commentsAll Aboard for a HiDef Narrow Gauge Steam Spectacular as the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic RR Repaints the equipment for a rare photo freight. First we top off the mighty K-36 tender of # 487 at the historic Osier, CO watertower Before charging up the Rocky mountains to Tanglefoot curve and the 10015′ Cumbres Pass and several crossings as the Last Freight Train to Chama, in 2008 but if you want to take a ride see: www.cumbrestoltec.com

Excellent work. I love the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. Sadly nothing like this is going on the East Coast. Other than Strasburg Railroad in PA nothing good. No Big Steam No Mainline steam just diseals.

Well Speed there always comes to one thing if you want to run Steam espically if your a Mainline Railroad and that is the thing we use to buy stuff, Money. If a Railroad can afford to do it maybe it can hold as many engines it can afford to run.

Nice video!
I’ve send you a message a few days back via youtube. It’s about a DVD project about the Cumbres & Toltec by several railfans.
Please contact me regarding this!

Yes quite a beautiful train! But I hate to pop your bubble, the entire trip was staged as a “historic reenactment” of a D&RGW freight train of the late 1950s. The Cumbres and Toltec does not run any freight what so ever to my knowledge, just these historic “railfan” trips, you did notice the three cabooses full of train geeks right? As well as their photo buddies along the way? Also they never hauled cattle, the livestock cars that ran in the region were for sheep only.

I learned about a week ago that it as just a photo freight.

This is the most spectacular railroad in North America. You really feel as if you have stepped 100 years back in time. A very highly recommended trip. Hands down!
